Annually, the Alliance Francaise of Soweto in partnership with Nosh Food Rescue, the Little Rose Foundation, the community of Diepkloof and the Soweto Chefs Academy prepare a meal in order to raise awareness against food wasting. People bring their cooking utensils to express their creativity through food while the DJs give us music that keeps us dancing from the beginning to the end of the event. According to cgcsa.co.za, 25% of South Africa’s households are at risk of hunger or experiencing hunger. South Africans waste roughly 10 million tonnes of food annually. Food waste negatives impacts on food security and this results in the wastage of resources used in food production and distribution.

On 19 August 2021, through the collaboration with Moving Into Dance, we were able to bring international dancer MARCEL GBEFFA to South Africa for a workshop on contemporary dance. We wrapped the dance workshop with an awesome question & answer session. Alliance Francaise Soweto is looking forward to more collaborations that create opportunities which enable the exchange of knowledge and skills from different careers.
